Although their incidence rates vary between 15-50 years of age, it can be seen at any age. Protection is very important as well as treatment because of their infectious nature .

The most frequently seen sexually transmitted diseases are;

1-Syphilis

It is a bacterial infection found in the lesions in the genital and the mouth region of women and men. There are three stages of the disease and it can mimic other dermatological diseases at each stage.

2-Gonorrhea

Disease-causing bacteria are found in semen and vaginal discharge. It can be transmitted through vaginal, anal and oral routes.

3-HPV Infection (Wart)

It is known as the wart among the people. There are around 100 sub-groups of the viruses causing warts and some of them prefer the genital area. Electrocautery, cryotherapy and topical drugs are used according to the clinic manifestations of the disease.

4-Molluscum Contagiosum

It is more frequently seen in youngsters and adults. As it can be transmitted from areas shared by many people, it is also transmitted sexually.

5-HSV (Herpes: cold sore)

There are two types as HSV 1 and HSV 2. Type 2 causes disease more frequently in the genital area. It is a virus that remains in the tissue for many years.

6-HIV (AIDS)

It is more often transmitted through sexual contact. Besides it can pass through blood products, and from infected mother to her baby.

7-Hepatitis B

The disease is transmitted by semen, vaginal fluid, blood and urine. Contamination may occur during operations such as tattoos or piercings. Prevention is through vaccination.

8-Chlamydia

It is easily treated with protection and antibiotherapy after isolating the infection agent from the discharge obtained from women and men (Chlamydia Trachomatis).

9-Trichomonas (Trichomonas vaginalis)

In this parasitic disease, burning onn urination, feeling of tension, yellow or green discharge is present. It is treated with antiparasitic drugs.

In all of these diseases, protection is very important. Measures of protection (prophylaxis):

  • Use condoms
  • Bathe before and after sexual relations
  • Do not share your towels or clothes with others
  • Request screening tests before and after suspicious sexual relations
  • Get hepatitis B vaccine
